DESCRIPTION
One of the most
charming intra-city caravansaries of the Safavid era
is the caravansari built during the rule of Shah
Sultan Hossein (1694-1723 A.C.), the last Safavid
king. It was built by order of Shah's mother on the
side of Chahaharbagh, which is considered as one of
the most exquisite and gorgeous civic avenues of the
world.
This caravansari was a type of hotel, established
amongst the complexes of royal gardens and
buildings, the revenue of which was spent in its
adjacent newly-built university, i.e. Madrassa of
Chaharbagh (school of Madar-Shah). However, lately
having lost the past application, it was in a state
of ruin. In 1958 it was decided to restore as a
modern hotel.
The modern hotel was destined to represent the art
of Isfahan as well. Therefore, apart from repairing
and restoring the ancient and original sections of
the caravansari, a team of craftsmen skilled in
traditional arts spent about 672,000 hours to build
its new sections, and in this manner, today's hotel
was transformed to a vivid and precious complex of
art works of ancient and modern Isfahan.
This complex includes an alluring court built in the
style of Iranian gardens, 227 rooms, suites and
apartments, multi purposed halls with different
capacities, luxurious restaurants, coffee shops,
swimming pool and sauna, traditional tea-house and
all additional welfare facilities and services and
also a museum.
